Microsoft to Stop Support for Office Apps on Windows 10
Microsoft have announced they will no longer support Office apps, known as Microsoft 365 apps, running on Windows 10 later this year.
This support cut off coincides with the Windows 10 end of life which is also happening this year. Windows 10 will reach the end of support on 14th October 2025. After this date, Windows 10 will stop receiving any updates, software patches and critical security fixes.
Microsoft ending support for the Office apps means that any businesses that rely on those Microsoft 365 apps will need to upgrade to Windows 11.
“Microsoft 365 Apps will no longer be supported after October 14, 2025, on Windows 10 devices,” Microsoft wrote in their recent blog post. “To use Microsoft 365 Applications on your device, you will need to upgrade to Windows 11.”
When the end of support for Office apps on Windows 10 happens, it doesn’t mean the apps will suddenly stop working. However, this does not mean you should not update to Windows 11.
Using the apps on Windows 10 after this date will increase your business’ exposure to security risks. It may also affect any legal or compliance obligations you may have such as Cyber Essentials and PCI for card payments.
Please do not delay looking into your IT estate to establish if you have any Windows 10 machines that need to be upgraded to Windows 11. There is also a chance that these Windows 10 machines may need to be completely replaced as there are strict hardware requirements for moving to Windows 11.
