Windows 10 and Office 2016/2019 End of life
The countdown is on!
14th October 2025 is going to be a big day for Windows and Office users, as Microsoft will be killing off support for the following:
- Windows 10 (all versions)
- Microsoft Office 2016
- Microsoft Office 2019
- Microsoft 365 Apps (i.e. the current version of Microsoft Office) on Windows 10 (Read more)
Microsoft ending support for these older versions of Office means that businesses that rely on software like Word, Excel or Outlook 2016 or 2019 will need to upgrade to Windows 11.
After the end of life date, Windows 10, Office 2016 and Office 2019 will stop receiving any updates, software patches and critical security fixes. If you continue to use these software programs after 14th October 2025, you will increase your business’ exposure to security risks. It may also affect any legal or compliance obligations you may have, such as Cyber Essentials and PCI for card payments.
Although October is 8 months away, now is the time to plan upgrading to Windows 11. Please do not delay looking into your IT estate to establish if you have any Windows 10 computers that need to be upgraded to Windows 11.
There is also a chance that older Windows 10 machines may need to be completely replaced as there are strict hardware requirements for moving to Windows 11.
If that is the case, you don’t have to replace all your Windows 10 PCs at once. You can upgrade individual computers of course, or you can plan on replacing them in smaller batches. This is why doing a review now will be beneficial in the long run. Ask us about leasing/finance too!
