Zero Trust – what does it mean?

Hello,

This week we are looking at Zero Trust Principles in cybersecurity.

In the past, you may have focused your defences on protecting network access with on-premise firewalls and VPNs, assuming that everything inside the network was safe.

But today, as data footprints have expanded to sit off-premise in the cloud, or across hybrid networks, the Zero Trust security model has evolved to address more potential attack points.

Zero Trust is a cybersecurity strategy that assumes no entity should be trusted by default. It requires verification of every request for access to company resources, even if the requestor has been authenticated before.

Microsoft have put together an eBook all about Zero Trust, which you can download for free here >

Benefits of Zero Trust

  • Improved security: Reduces the risk of excessive permissions and attackers moving laterally through the network
  • Better visibility: Provides visibility into what is going on within the network
  • Support for remote work: Extends secure access control to connections from anywhere
